Photographing a momma with her baby belly and is nothing short of magical. The gift of pregnancy is unlike any other, and as women, we have the amazing opportunity to give new life.
Although we have found that maternity photos are often time’s skipped within a momma’s journey through pregnancy, more often than not we are told that they would go back and have that special time photographed if they could. We encourage ever momma to document this significant time within their families lives, a time so real and raw.
If you are a pregnant mama in the Boulder area here are a few maternity photo tips for your upcoming session:
1. Scheduling your maternity photography session
Maternity sessions are best photographed between 30 and 34 weeks of pregnancy. Because our photography studio books 1-2 months in advance, it is best to schedule your maternity session ahead of time.
2. Reward yourself
Reward yourself with a spa day prior to your photo session. Get a manicure and pedicure, perhaps even your hair and makeup professionally done. You are gorgeous, and deserve to be treated. Once the time comes to have your photos done, you will have less to be conscious about and can focus on that baby belly we are wanting to show off.
3. Clothing options
Bring 2 outfit choices. As a Boulder maternity photographer, we photograph all of our maternity sessions in-studio on our gorgeous studio bed with a white duvet cover. We suggest bringing along a pair of simple boy shorts and a t-shirt, a simple and sweet nightgown, and a more daily wear option. You should feel and look comfortable during your session.
4. Lather your skin
Treat your skin a couple hours before your session. Lather up with lotion to prevent dry, itchy, or redness during your photos.
5. Be confident momma, you’re gorgeous
Having photos taken of yourself with a pregnant belly often makes women feel uncomfortable. Your body is constantly changing, and you feel as though the last thing you want to do is get in front of a camera. Trust us when we say, you are beautiful. You have that amazing momma glow, and we know in years to come how much you will truly cherish your maternity photos. Your little babe will also 😉
