On my first day of photography school (which feels like a lifetime ago), a professor said to our class, you don’t simply take a photo, you feel it.
I remember thinking, “Ummm … ok, buddy. Whatever you say.”
Ironically, almost 2 decades later, his words still echo in my ears every single time I take a photo worth remembering.
It’s not just a photo. It’s a feeling.
Now, you may be reading this thinking, “ummm, ok Jenni … whatever you say.” But bear with me for just a moment.
As a Boulder photographer, I see amazing photos every day. Ninety percent of the time I have a baby on one hip and a 5 year old tugging on my other hand. Definitely no camera in sight.
But my eye sees it.
I compose, light, and capture photos every single day without ever picking up a camera. Once you’ve trained your eye to see your surroundings as photographs, it’s hard to turn that off.
If I’ve ever photographed your family, you know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s that moment just after I take a photo when I look down at my camera and I get the chills, a smile on my face from ear to ear, and I take a moment to breathe it all in.
All the mommy feels. All the emotions.
All of it, captured by my eye and my camera for you, my favorite clients to cherish for years to come. It’s not just a photo, it’s a feeling. It’s a feeling paused in time that you can pass on to your children. Something for them to remember us by when photos are all they have left of us. Mamas, please do me a favor? Get in front of the camera more often. Give your children something that will last forever to remember just how much you loved them. Because of this, some of my favorite moments to document are during motherhood sessions. The closeness. The bond. The raw emotions. The feeling that surrounds these mamas and their children just screams “document me now“. So I do.
And that my friends, is why I love my job as a Boulder photographer.
