Unposed newborn sessions are my favorite type of photography session. As Boulder Newborn Photographers, these are our most requested sessions, and it’s not hard to see why.
The photos are simple, clean, natural and modern. I focus on the photographing my newborn sessions exactly how a baby really sleeps. No silly poses. No hands holding up chin. Nothing unnatural about these newborn sessions.
Once I get the baby nice and sleepy (see tips for making a baby sleep in less than 5 minutes post), I lay them down on a beanbag next to the window in our all-natural light (no flashes or light-boxes), all-white studio in Niwot (just outside of Boulder). I turn up the white noise, make sure the heat is at 82, and I only reposition the baby 2-3 times for the entire newborn session.
My goal is to keep the baby comfy and safe while I photograph all of their little details. Ten tiny fingers, ten teeny toes, those perfect little eye lashes, those pouty little lips, the peach fuzz on their cheeks, the wrinkles and rolls. All of it.
I want to give my clients something to look back on in a month, a year, a decade, and more that will remind them how tiny and precious their newborn baby was this day. Because, let’s face it. They change so very quickly. Before we know it our tiny baby isn’t a baby any more. Breathe it all in. Remember to remember. Each of these moments is worth it. I promise.
