Boulder Kids Photographer
A couple weeks ago I had the pleasure of photography my son’s school for a fundraiser they held this past Saturday in Boulder.
When I first started my photography studio many years ago, I photographed lots and lots of private preschools and daycares in the area.
But I wasn’t offering traditional “school photos”.
As a Boulder kids photographer, I wanted to document these school kids being themselves. Candid, real life, natural (no “say cheese”) smiles. And that’s exactly what we did.
We all know what that “say cheeeeese” request brings … a forced, deer-in-head-lights, fake smile. It’s ok, it’s not your fault. It’s just what our society has taught our children to do every single time a camera is picked up.
BUT, here’s the good news: we can stop doing it.
Yep, right here, right now. Just let your kids be themselves. Catch them off-guard, playing and having fun. Let them be “them”. No more forced smiles. And here’s a little photo tip: ask them “not to smile” next time you pull our your camera, and just see what happens. 😉
Now, I haven’t photographed a school in many years, but when my son’s school asked me to be part of this fundraiser, without blinking an eye, I said YES!
Working with all of the children was always so much fun. We photographed over 350 school kids in under 4 hours. With the help of 3 volunteers we operated like a well-oiled machine.
Having under 1 minute per child to capture a real, natural smile was a little pressure. But, luckily I’m a giant kid in a 38 year old body, so I think it turned out just fine. But I’ll let you be the judge of that. Take a peek at just a handful of the cuteness I had the honor of working with last week. I’m smiling just looking at these kids.
Raise your hand if you’re long overdue for a photography session for your children. No worries, I’ve got your back … we still have a handful of sessions available this fall. Visit our photography investment page to reserve your Boulder photography session.
