When we are creating our courses and coaching programs, we pour our hearts and souls into them so they can truly make a difference, but the thought of someone stealing our content can be downright stressful. So, how can we protect our courses and coaching programs from being stolen?

Before I go any further, I want to make it clear that I’m not a lawyer by any stretch and am not giving legal advice, I can speak from my own experience. Now, if someone is downloading your course and videos, uploading it to their own portal, and then rebranding it and selling it as their own, that’s 100% stealing.

Nobody is reinventing the wheel

But here’s how I see it: I have given full permission to many of my clients to create a program that is a lot like mine. I can think of a few right now who are absolutely crushing it! Because the thing is, none of us are going to teach the same subject in the same way. That is your secret sauce.

Here’s an example: I have a program that teaches how to do Facebook and Instagram ads, and I’ve taught that to hundreds of people. Some of them are now teaching programs on how to create ads, and that’s okay! They are putting their own spin on it! Nothing is original anymore. We are all repurposing and putting our own spin on something we’ve learned somewhere else. I’m not the first person who’s ever created a course, and therefore not the only person who can ever teach people how to create courses.

The one thing I will say is that if you are going to create a course or program to teach something, you have to have success with it before you can go and teach others how to do it.

Having an abundance mindset

I also want to talk about going from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. In a space where many people are doing similar things, it can be easy to fall into that scarcity mentality, being worried that others will steal your ideas or your audience. But I truly believe there is plenty of success to go around, and how you teach your program is going to be different from how someone else teaches theirs. If you can foster that kind of mindset, you will find a community of people where you can help uplift and support one another.
