Today’s episode might surprise you a bit, but I’m getting real, raw, and vulnerable. I’m pulling back the curtain on the time that I almost burned my business to the ground. Actually, it’s happened more than once, but I’m diving into this one particular instance. So, buckle up because it’s going to get a bit bumpy.

The need to shake things up

I have been coaching for 10 years now, full-time for 5, and have scaled my business to $1M a year. On paper, it looks like I’m wildly successful and I must be extremely happy, right? Well, earlier this year, I got to a point where I was discouraged and on the brink of burnout. I knew something needed to change. 

At the end of last year, I wanted to shake things up. I retired one of my signature programs and tried a bunch of different things. I talked to my team and we decided to host 6 retreats in 2024 to add fuel to the fire when it came to passive income. We ended up shutting down most of my high-ticket coaching programs and poured all of our efforts into these retreats. We sold out super fast. I was SO excited to host these retreats.

The rollercoaster that was 2024

Well, the high happened before the actual planning. We sold out knowing where we were hosting, but there were so many moving parts and logistical things I didn’t figure out first. My team and I were hustling 24/7 and we were stressed the eff out. 

We ended the year on a high, but went straight from my COO getting married in November, to Thanksgiving break, to Christmas break, my COO going on her honeymoon for 2 weeks, and then having the first retreat literally the day after she came back. 

This continued all through Q1. I was flying a good 3-4 times a month with no time to recharge or plan. I was completely burned out and knew we couldn’t keep going like this.  

Bouncing back and reframing my mindset

Despite having one of our lowest quarters ever, we bounced back. With the help of my coach, I was able to flip the script and reframe what happened in Q1. Instead of saying it sucked, I realized that it needed to happen. I needed to try those things so I didn’t wonder “What if.” I got it out of my system. 

I knew exactly what I needed to do. I went back to my roots and focused on 1 signature offer – my brand new mastermind, The Next Level Mastermind. It’s taking one piece of content, and repurposing it 3 different ways: 

• A lower-ticket online course that makes passive income in your sleep – This is for the DIYers who want to do the work at their own pace. 
• A high-ticket coaching program – These people need a little more hand-holding. They want access to you as a coach and your private community. 
• Host a retreat – The people who come to your retreat are those who prioritize their time. They are willing to pay more to get an expedited version of the course or coaching program. 

What I learned in Q1

So, what did I learn in Q1? I realized I had to learn this so I could go back and teach what I love. I love hosting retreats, but I can’t have them back-to-back. I also love my courses, but I need time to focus on higher-ticket programs as well. 

I’m honestly glad all of this happened. It was a great learning experience and I can teach others what not to do. I also know what I need to do. I am crystal clear on what my business is going to do for the rest of 2024. 

The thing that’s going to look different moving forward is that we will be spacing out our retreats in 2025 and 2026. I will also focus on the high-ticket offer while passive income is running in the backend.
