As entrepreneurs and coaches, we often find ourselves wearing all the hats. One of the hats many of my clients try to wear is the financial, or bookkeeping hat. They try to manage their own QuickBooks and taxes, living in this constant fear of, “Am I doing it right??”
I learned very early on after trying to do my own finances that I needed to hire a bookkeeper. Accounting isn’t my thing. I love math, but I’m not a CPA by any stretch, so I hired an incredible woman by the name of Zsofia. She and her partner have their own agency, providing comprehensive financial services. She’s basically my CFO (chief financial officer).
One thing I love about working with Zsofia is our quarterly review calls. During these calls, we literally go over everything: my profit and loss, balance sheet, where my business is going, if it’s on track, if I’m hitting benchmarks, if expenses are too high or too low, and how I can save the most money on taxes while being legally compliant.
Additionally, she also does something called a “crystal ball analysis” where I get on the phone with her and the tax advisor. They give me insight into potential tax scenarios, allowing me to file taxes without the panic of last-minute deadlines.
Another thing I love about her is that she’s truly a cheerleader for my business. Whenever we get on a call, she’s encouraging me by telling me things like, “You are crushing it,” and “Look how far you’ve come!”
I never knew I needed a CFO, and to be honest, I didn’t even know what it was, but it’s been SO amazing for my business and it can be for yours too.
If bookkeeping is a struggle for you, I encourage you to consider hiring someone like Zsofia to be on your team. The peace of mind and the strategic advantage it can bring to your business is invaluable. Remember: just because you can figure something out, doesn’t mean you should.
